A rainy 2009 Antibes Yacht Show ?
The Amels "MY Shanti"
The 2009 Antives Yacht Show will be held for the third year in Port Vauban from April 2-5 2009.
According to the dedicated website "Having already doubled its capacity last year, the 2009 event innovates again with new facilities and services, and additional show space with more in-water spots and exhibition stands representing the French and international yachting industry."

The Sardinian taxe question..
ROME (Reuters) - The new governor of the sun-swept Italian island of Sardinia is repealing a tax on the mega rich that will benefit, among others, jet setters like billionaire Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
Governor Ugo Cappellacci, the son of Berlusconi's tax adviser, proposed a budget that repeals the tax on mooring luxury yachts and landing private aircraft on the island where the prime minister owns a holiday mansion.
The luxury taxes, which opponents said scared away the rich and hurt tourism, were introduced under the previous centre-left governor, Renato Soru, who was ousted in elections last month.
Berlusconi hand-picked Cappellacci out of virtual obscurity to run against Soru. His election victory triggered the resignation of Italy's opposition leader, Walter Veltroni.
Cappellacci is also expected to loosen restrictions on construction along Sardinia's famous coastline, as long environmental protections are respected.

Economic Crisis & Superyacht trends
In an interview late on Wednesday published on Reuters website, Peter Munk, 81, founder and chairman of Barrick Gold (ABX.TO), said the global economic crisis offered a chance to sell services at relative bargain rates for the world's growing numbers of yachts.
Munk added: "None of those yachts out there are going to be sunk," he said. "But they are going to be looking for good value...It's a tremendous opportunity. The Adriatic is currently on par with the Cote d'Azur," he said by telephone from the ski resort of Davos, Switzerland. "But you can save on two-thirds of the costs."
Munk, a Hungarian native, said the financial crisis will hit yacht owners. But he said if, for example, a Russian oligarch must sell a mega yacht at a fire sale price, a new owner of slightly more modest means might want a cheaper alternative to famed ports such as St. Tropez, Palma de Mallorca or Monaco.

Oliver Corlette, Porto Montenegro's managing director, said a berth would cost 130,000 euros annually for a 75-metre yacht, compared to about a million euros a year in Antibes, France.

It seems to me that Mr Corlette does not really know the price for a berth in Antibes...

Boat ownership alternatives see growth...not only for the small yachts
Check out this interesting article published on "Boating Industry" website about the fractional ownership scheme.
"It's a way to justify keeping it," Loren Simkowitz of Monocle Fractional Yachts in Fort Lauderdale, told the newspaper.
Monocle sells and manages the fractional ownership of more than 50 yachts, including brands such as Azimut, Hargrave, Hatteras and Westport, which range in length from 64 feet to more than 300 feet, according to the article.
